Punjab—the historic Land of Five Rivers—connects Harappa's Indus civilisation, ancient trade and Sufi learning with the architectural legacies of the Mughal and Sikh eras. Irrigation, railways and Partition reshaped the province, with Lahore emerging as its capital. Today Punjab is Pakistan's leading food-grain region and a major centre for textiles, food processing, engineering, sports goods and surgical instruments; its future rests on water-smart agriculture, research, clean industry, digital skills, connected cities and carefully managed heritage.
